Touched by a Healer…
Aloha! I was born here in Honolulu, Hawaii. Growing up in paradise I did the typical things that one does such as going to school, playing outdoors in nature and frolicking in the ocean. I especially love to go surfing. Surfing I feel is one of life’s ultimate experience—riding a wave truly is “being in the moment.” To me, our Mother Ocean is very healing…
My first indoctrination to energy healing began when I was very young. I vaguely remember a very nice lady who would oftentimes accompany us when my dad would take the family on drives to all corners of the island of Oahu. She was kind, and felt very peaceful to be around; and I believed that she was part of the family.
As a child I was very frail. Being asthmatic I would get sick a lot. Whenever this happened my mom and dad would place their hands on my chest, head or other parts of my body. This felt really good because their hands felt so warm and soothing and always made me feel better.
My siblings and I would almost automatically request for and say “Reiki, Reiki,” whenever we did not feel well. Little did I know at the time what this Reiki thing was all about…
Mrs. Takata—Takata Sensei!
It was only when my parents learned of my interest in the healing arts many years later did they share with me the whole story of who that nice lady was, and how Reiki became a part of our lives. The woman was Hawayo Takata (Mrs. Takata to me). Mrs. Takata was the woman who introduced the healing art of Reiki to the West from Japan. For whatever reason, she befriended my family when she lived in Honolulu…

My parents told me that Mrs. Takata gave me many Reiki treatments to help alleviate my asthma. She also initiated my mom and dad into Reiki. Although they are not professional Reiki practitioners, they are very gifted healers—my dad’s hands are so hot!
I have not been formally initiated into Reiki myself. However, I truly believe that Mrs. Takata in her own way imparted the gift of Reiki into me—perhaps in the course of the many healings that she gave me. Today, in my healing practice I call upon the Reiki energy.

Artist… and Spiritual Healer?
I studied art at the University of Hawaii and received a BFA in graphic design. Although I know that my ultimate soul’s purpose in life is that of a spiritual healer, I am also an artist. I like to stoke the creative fire occasionally by dabbling in graphic design and web site development.
Leaving on a Jet Plane…
I moved to the mainland and eventually settled in San Diego, California. At the time, my main intention was to further my education. I did receive a MA in Education (Educational Technology) from San Diego State University. But little did I know that on the soul level this was the beginning of my stepping onto the path of being a spiritual healer.
My true indoctrination to energy, healing, spirit, etc. began when I attended the Berkeley Psychic Institute (they had a satellite school in San Diego at the time). I took classes in meditation, healing and completed their one-year Clairvoyant Training Program. Many of the psychic tools that I incorporate into my healing practice was learned at BPI.
I received my first bodywork session when I lived in San Diego. Diana, my massage therapist, told me something shocking! She said I was carrying around so much “body armor” on me. At first I did not know what she meant by this.
It was only after her working with, and helping me to let go of the “protection,” did I get it. It explained why my body was so stiff and in a lot of pain. It was through her nurturing and care that I was inspired to learn how to give a massage. Her touch was very healing for me.
San Diego has a very progressive massage school called IPSB (International Professional School of Bodywork). It was here that I received my initial training in massage and bodywork. I completed their 120 hour Massage Technician program.
Coming Home…
My journey on the mainland had many twists and turns and I eventually made my way back home to Hawaii…
The desire to incorporate massage into my healing practice prompted me to attend massage school here; as I needed to acquire the necessary hours as mandated by the State of Hawaii to become a licensed massage therapist. I received my massage license in 2002 after completing a 570 hour massage therapy program.
The Journey Continues!
Currently, I am a student of Michael Tamura. He is a very gifted spiritual healer, clairvoyant and teacher; and was a former director of the Berkeley Psychic Institute. Michael and his lovely wife Raphaelle live in Mount Shasta, California at the foot of mystical Mt. Shasta. I am an apprentice in Michael’s “Healers’ Apprenticeship Intensives” program where I am furthering my growth in the art and craft of healing.
(You Are the Answer is a book written by Michael Tamura. It is an extraordinary guide to entering the sacred dance with life and fulfilling your soul purpose. This book is a must read for all spiritual seekers!)
