FREEDOM & DISCIPLINE
by Stephen Nakamitsu
Freedom and discipline go hand-in-hand. To phrase it differently—it takes discipline to be free. We all want to be free and experience all that the Universe has to offer, whether it be in work, play, relationships, etc. After all, aren’t we here to experience the highest feelings of joy and love? Ahhhh, FREEDOM!
But what does discipline have to do with it? Well, the Universe in her infinite wisdom and generosity provides ALL experiences in this game of life. Dichotomies: Good / Bad. Love / Fear. Acceptance / Denial. To Be / Not to Be. Yes! To be or not to be? That is the question. And the answer? Hmmm, that is in your choice…
Who do you choose to be?
Do you choose to touch another soul with your healing hands and compassionate heart? Are you consistent with your conduct in your practice, in your private life, and in public? What happens to your body when you eat certain foods? Do you honor others as you would have others honor you? Do you go into judgment in reaction to the behavior of someone who “hurt” you? Do you go into judgment of yourself? These are just some of the infinite choices we can make along our life’s journey. The opportunities are endless. Mind you, however, there is no “right” or “wrong”. Just choices.
What is your highest choice?
If you’re feeling stuck, in pain, or not living up to the highest realization of yourself as a spiritual being, you have the freedom to change. To heal. To evolve. This is called the process of becoming aware. Choosing awareness may be the most difficult choice you’ll ever have to make. Because once you make the choice to walk the “high road” it will take discipline to keep your balance and not topple back into old patterns and beliefs.
So, until next time, Be Love and believe that freedom is yours for the choosing. May discipline be an integral practice in your High Adventure called life.
